This is America's most famous survival story.

In the earliest days of the Revolutionary War, new warriors in our hop-scotch army concocted a risky plan to invade Quebec and its mighty fortress, to defeat the British garrison inside, and to inspire common Canadian citizens to join hands with us to drive the British from the continent.  Washington himself ordered the attack, and placed his favorite young commander in charge.  That man's name was Benedict Arnold!   A crack force of rough-hewn woodsmen was selected, boats were built, provisions gathered , and guides chosen for a trip through the backwoods of Maine, so arduous that disaster simply licked its chops.

In order to survive this killing slog, the survivors were forced to eat "dogs, shoes, clothing, leather, shaving soap and lip salve."  They died by "drowning, hypothermia, small-pox, lightning strikes, exposure and starvation."  They were brilliantly led by Arnold, and...some say...blessed by a native American princess, named Jacataqua, who guided them to safety at a crucial moment.  As the story goes, she was so beautiful the men nick-named her "Golden Thighs".  In hard cover. 207 pages.

What happened?  We'll never tell, but Pulitzer prize winning author Thomas DesJardin surely will!  It is truly one of those books that is hard to put down.
